  • TKI Purchases Carbaryl Ag Business From Bayer

    Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc. (TKI) announced today the purchase of the crop protection assets of the global carbaryl business from Bayer CropScience, which will retain the non-crop business.

     

    Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
     
    Carbaryl is marketed under the Sevin® brand, as well as other associated trademarks in forty countries. TKI will acquire global crop protection assets including trade names, knowhow, registrations and registration data.
     
    Jordan Burns, CEO of TKI, stated, “TKI is committed to expanding its crop protection portfolio. We intend to continue building our NovaSource® Crop Protection group with the addition of strategic products as they become available”.
     
    Responsibility for the carbaryl product will be undertaken by TKI’s business unit, NovaSource (www.novasource.com).  The NovaSource Group Vice President David Cassidy stated: “the acquisition of the carbaryl insecticide franchise is another step in the planned expansion of the company’s niche crop protection product portfolio following the acquisition of the terbacil and linuron businesses from DuPont, the Surround® business from BASF and the Purshade® business from Purfresh.”

  • NovaSource Offering Free Herbicide IPM Tool
    NovaSource announces today it is offering its Herbicide Classification Guide FREE* in a counter mat format for use at retail counters or as a desk blotter. The colorful mat features a sturdy vinyl surface with a 1/8” rubberized backing and is 14” X 19”. The mat contains the herbicide classification group numbers for many common herbicides.  Developed by the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA), it classifies herbicides by their site of action.  Growers and consultants can use the guide to better plan their herbicide programs to avoid continuous use of herbicides from the same group which can lead to the development of resistance.

  • NovaSource Expands Business Team

    NovaSource adds two ag professionals to its staff, Tom Justmann and Kyle Coleman.

    Justmann joins as International Business Director for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.  A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Justmann was formerly with American Cyanamid and Arysta Life Science and its legacy companies.  Most recently he was the General Manager of the Plant Health Group at Purfresh, Inc. before TKI acquired the Purshade business from Purfresh in August, 2011.
     
    Coleman joins NovaSource as Regional Account Manager in the Pacific Northwest where he will share account management responsibilities with Jim Owens.  Coleman will also be responsible for select product management responsibilities and special projects.  He is a graduate of Utah State University and has held positions with Dow AgroSciences and most recently, Amvac Chemical Corporation.  Coleman resides in Kennewick, WA.

  • Introducing new Sinbar WDG Herbicide

    NovaSource® announced today the launch of its Sinbar® WDG - water dispersible granule - agricultural herbicide.

    The WDG formulation replaces Sinbar WP (wettable powder) in the United States and Canada and represents the latest formulation enhancement from NovaSource, a business unit of Tessenderlo Kerley Inc., (TKI). The free-flowing, water dispersible granules are virtually dust- free, making the WDG formulation easier to handle and measure than the WP formulation.  The product mixes easily and provides improved dispersion in the spray tank.  For more information about the WDG formulation, follow this link to view a video on new Sinbar WDG herbicide. 
    Sinbar is a Group 5 pre-emergence herbicide that controls more than 60 broadleaf weeds.   • TKI and Purfresh® Reach Agreement

    (Phoenix, Arizona, August 23, 2011)— Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc. (TKI) and Purfresh Inc., Fremont California announced today that the two businesses have reached an agreement for TKI to acquire the global assets of the Purfresh crop protection sun screen business and the Purshade product line including the trademarks, formulation knowledge, registrations, pending patents, other intellectual property and customer lists. Purshade is approved for sale in over forty countries.

    The Purshade business will be managed and marketed by TKI’s NovaSource® business unit and will be a complementary offering to the company’s Surround® Crop Protectant product line.  NovaSource (www.novasource.com) is TKI’s business unit, charged with developing and marketing registered pesticides for niche crop protection and specialty markets.
    Following closing of the acquisition, TKI will dismiss its complaint against Purfresh.  The complaint, filed in the U.S. district court for the district of Delaware, asserted that Purfresh infringed certain TKI U.S. patents.  Additional terms of the transaction will not be disclosed.

  • NovaSource Expands Business Team

    NovaSource announced today that Rod Hallam is joining the NovaSource sales team as Regional Account manager for California and Arizona​.

    A graduate of the University of California at Davis, Hallam was previously with Bayer Crop Science where he spent 22 years in various capacities, primarily in California and the Pacific Northwest.  Hallam and his family reside in Roseville, California.

    Jerry Krebs has assumed the position of Senior Metam Stewardship Manager and will focus his activities on supporting the Sectagon Agricultural Fumigants by coordinating applicator training and other stewardship activities for the metam sodium, metam potassium chemistry.

  • NEW EPA SOIL FUMIGATION REGULATIONS
    The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has instituted new requirements for soil fumigation products including metam sodium and metam potassium.  The goal of the new regulations is to protect workers and bystanders while maintaining the benefits of the products for agricultural production.  New labels which include the new requirements will be effective January 1, 2011 for use in the 2011 season.  Further revisions to these labels will be made in late 2011 for implementation in the 2012 use season.  Click Here for More Details
  • Jon Akins, Ph.D., DABT joins NovaSource, October 2010 :
    Jon Akins joins the NovaSource organization as Director of Regulatory Affairs for its business.  In this role, Akins will be responsible for all regulatory and registration activities of the NovaSource business unit. He will focus on the re-registration and defense of NovaSource products globally and spearhead the registration of new uses for existing products.

    Akins is a toxicologist by training, earning his MS in toxicology from the University of Arizona and his Ph.D. in environmental toxicology from Clemson University. Akins was formerly with Syngenta and its predecessor organizations, Novartis and Ciba Geigy. Most recently he has served as Manager, Toxicology and Health Sciences for Syngenta in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Human Health and Risk Committee (HARC) of Crop Life America and will be become the Committee Chair in January 2011
  • David Hoppel joins NovaSource, October 2009:
    Dave Hoppel joins the NovaSource organization as Manufacturing Director where he will manage NovaSource’s third party manufacturing activities, support NovaSource projects at TKI plant sites, and participate in supply chain activities.

    Hoppel is a chemical engineer by training. He spent the first twenty one years of his career with Rohm and Haas in progressively more responsible positions before moving to Cedar Chemical where he was the Vice President of Manufacturing. He was the Director of Contract Manufacturing for Griffin LLC and most recently was responsible for Platte Chemical’s, (CPS) chemical manufacturing, formulation and packaging business.
